Ford Falcon as a buffer.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Here’s his resignation letter. I’m disappointed. He was the one person in this administration that I had high regard for.

I know words and their meaning don’t matter to this P resident but he resigned, didn’t “ retire”

Aussies got the weirdest/coolest Falcons. And that other thing, yeah... we’re all fucked.
![]() 12/20/2018 at 19:03 |

Read the resignation letter. It’s subtle, but scathing.
![]() 12/20/2018 at 19:05 |

That one isn’t Aussie, it’s Argentine. It’s a * first gen* US Falcon built in the 1 980s with some updates.
Otherwise, yeah, you’re right.

Doh , I forgot about the weird South American stuff. I recognized the body from the A-pillar back.

The Aussies got some very cool Falcons. Argentina... not so much.

Because you have the right to have a Secretary of Defense whose views are better aligned with yours on these and other subjects, I believe it is right for me to step down from my position.
snap
only “subtle” to those who can’t words
![]() 12/20/2018 at 19:41 |

And right after laying out what his own views are, too.

Why do republicans even bother with Mr Trump?
![]() 12/20/2018 at 19:46 |
|
Because he energized the far right base and won the election, unlike the previous two candidates, and gave them their tax cuts. Plus, they like winning.
On foreign policy, the Republican core struggles mightily with him - a lot of what he wants is at odds with them, but some of it is not.

Sonofabitch... Plz don't go, Saint Mattis!
![]() 12/20/2018 at 19:48 |
|
I think the majority of the country agrees with you, R and D - including me. But he’s gone.
![]() 12/20/2018 at 19:57 |
|
I wonder because he won the primaries with a minority of the vote... we can’t go back in time, but had the republican field been more organized, he would’ve lost The primary.
And honestly, I think most republicans voted for him in order to avoid hilary rather than for him....
i don’t think he’s such a valuable asset for Republicans as some bill him to be, and the far right isn’t that large either....
![]() 12/20/2018 at 20:00 |
|
Correct on all counts- I suppose you could say that Hillary motivated the Republican base more than Trump.
He is rapidly becoming a liability for the Republican party - when if they figure that out, they’ll disavow him. More than anything, the Republican party is pragmatic - it’s their biggest advantage over the Democrats.
The mainstream Republicans will NOT be happy about Mattis going - they already weren’t happy about the Syria pullout.

People with a level of intelligence and a survival instinct are jumping ship. The United States government is too big to run alone. At best, people will continue to resist through foot dragging and pocket vetos. At worst, Trump will put less capable people in positions of power and he will set the country back 20+ years.

Trump will put less capable people in positions of power and he will set the country back 20+ years.
I think he’s shooting for 120 years

I have no idea what republicans will do in 2020; if they somehow avoid a 20 contender field and concentrate their energy
againts
t Trump, they might succeed in getting a
different contender, but I don’t know if they could succeed againts democrats, who have a
very
strong field for 2020.
![]() 12/20/2018 at 20:12 |

Way way way (I think I need to add a whole load more ‘way’s’ to this), too subtle for trumpie. Hell even if Mattis had drawn pictures and written cards, trumpie wouldn’t get it.
![]() 12/20/2018 at 20:44 |
|
He might get it if it said “ trump bad! I quit! ”. Maybe.
Anything beyond that, forget it.
![]() 12/20/2018 at 21:00 |
|
Nah, even then I think it’d have to be, ‘trump, fat ly ing arsehole. F*** off’.

Don’t worry, Jared will be a fine replacement
![]() 12/20/2018 at 21:57 |

So much for me ever sleeping again now, thanks
![]() 12/20/2018 at 21:57 |

I don't think the Dems have a strong field at all for 2020. I think they will have a very hard time defeating Trump. And that terrifies me.
![]() 12/20/2018 at 21:58 |
|
We’re a long way away, but yeah, it’s not pretty.
![]() 12/20/2018 at 22:14 |

Its very hard to beat an incumbent president, when the economy is good. Granted, Trump is doing his best to screw that up.
![]() 12/20/2018 at 22:14 |
|
Mattis disagrees with Trump on foreign policy, and how to treat allies vs Russia / China / etc, among many other things - Not exactly a secret there.
It sounds like based on his letter that he’s burnt out from fighting internal foes in addition to external ones . Working for Trump will do that to you. Surely somebody younger & with a bit more fight in them will step in to fill his place.
![]() 12/20/2018 at 22:19 |

Our military had been afflicted with far too competent leadership in the last couple of years. I suppose that's run its course.
![]() 12/20/2018 at 22:26 |
|
Yeah, he’s solving that problem for the Democrats on his own.
![]() 12/20/2018 at 22:27 |
|
He may not be doing it quick enough though.
![]() 12/20/2018 at 22:28 |
|
Yeah, that’s right, and I suspect Syria was the final straw.
Too bad - by all accounts I’ve seen, he’s a good, honorable person . Those seem to be in very short supply lately.
![]() 12/20/2018 at 22:30 |
|
Oh no. He is. Trust me. 2 019 will be a shitshow economically.
![]() 12/20/2018 at 22:35 |
|
I think he’s burnt out working for an administration that favors relationships with our enemies over relationships with our allies. I’m sure someone younger, with more financial ties to our enemies, will step in to fill his place.
![]() 12/20/2018 at 22:45 |

I mean, compared to the republicans minus trump? super strong; many democrats are standing out of the ordinary for good (most republicans standing out are just being ostrisised)
Granted, defeating an incumbent is downright impossible, but we did see Bush Sr. loose to a little-known democrat when the economy went bad... however Bush was a very different republican... because republicans didn't really like him :/
![]() 12/20/2018 at 23:03 |

I hope you're right, because I want to be wrong.

Good thing we just signed a 3-year contract in my district then.

It's a strange time for the world, many populists starting to show up; I hope that people dispose of them before it becomes a long term problem.

As do I.
